From The Four Seasons to Motel 6
What’s the Difference?
Let me start off by saying, I have stayed at plenty of Motel 6s. I have stayed in places that made Motel 6 look like the Four Seasons. I am talking about sleeping in my clothes on top of the bed, staring into my own sad and exhausted eyes with the mirror above me. Then, one day we stayed at the Four Seasons in NYC. Game over. I could never go back to a Motel 6 again. Why was the Four Seasons so much better? Yes, it was plush and all that, but what really got me was the service. The service was top notch. Total attention to detail was everywhere. I discovered what it was like for someone to park my car and greet me warmly at the front desk. Fresh apples. Warm cookies. The concierge gave us an abundance of information on what to do and see, which mom and pop and hole in the wall restaurants we should try. We even had turn-down service. Tom Bodett left the light on for me, but that was it. There was definitely no turndown service.
Guess What . . .
Dental care is no different. You can go to a big box dental office that is owned by corporate America with dentists working there that have to answer to their owners. The owners don’t know you, your dental status or anything at all about your health, yet they are dictating the treatment you need. Do you want someone telling you what you need based on the average and the corporation’s bottom line? No. No, you do not. You want someone who will sit down and listen. Someone to review your medical history in detail and take that into account when evaluating your oral health. For example, someone who will discuss how your Rheumatoid Arthritis (insert many other medical conditions) will be exacerbated by oral infections and then go on to explain why. Someone to be a partner in your journey to wellness. How about someone who will take a sample of your plaque and view it under the microscope with you? Then, talk to you about how you can change unhealthy conditions with things such as nutrition, pH, salivary flow and even the way you clean your mouth. This is service. This is attention to detail! This is the Four Seasons experience you want for your dental and overall health. This is the case when you choose a biological dental practice that focuses on overall health and customized treatment to each individual. Once you have experienced a taste of that, there is no going back to the one size fits all, big box, corporate dentistry, Motel 6 experience.
