Surrounding Yourself with 14ers
On my most recent trip to Kois Dental Center in Seattle, the pilot had to modify his course, which allowed everyone on board (or at least everyone on the left side of the plane) the opportunity to take in the majesty of Mt. Rainier.
Rainier stands 14,411 feet tall. I haven’t hiked it (yet), but I have hiked several peaks in Colorado topping out at 14,321 feet.
When you’re surrounded by other peaks in similar height, it appears a little easier and less daunting. However, when you stand alone, like Mt. Rainier does at sea level, it appears to be an unattainable task.
I can altogether relate this to a person’s journey to better health after years of self-neglect and poor decisions. And maybe they haven’t been poor decisions as much as they’ve been living out ancestral lifestyles.
Either way, there comes a time when people get tired of being tired. And sick. And unwell. When that happens, the best place to start is your mouth. More specifically, what you are putting in it.
Once you finally decide to start eating better, surround yourself with other 14ers. Your new normal won’t seem as daunting. Follow Instagram pages that post simple yet healthy recipes.
Trust me, there are PLENTY of them out there. And once you watch one, your feed will fill up quickly.
If you have family members or friends that enjoy a healthier lifestyle, tell them you are ready to change the way you feel and would love for them to share advice or recipes. If you’re old school, purchase some recipe books with beautiful pictures for encouragement.
